MGP Gets Verified On Twitter

Today, we became verified on Twitter. This comes right after the Minnesota Green party became the first verified third party for any state, making Maryland second.

Known on Twitter as @mdgreens, we have nearly 2000 followers. The most interesting aspect of this event is that the Maryland GOP is not verified.

Along with MGP, Green mayoral candidate for Baltimore, Joshua Harris, also received verification status. Harris has almost as many followers as his Democratic challenger Catherine Pugh.

Green success on Twitter has become a recent trend, as social media allows for a wide audience to be reached without requiring any campaign funds. The Baltimore Green Party (@baltimoregreens) has hundreds of more followers than the Baltimore City GOP. As for the Baltimore City Democrats, they are inactive with very few followers.

In addition to the verifications by Greens in Maryland, Vice Presidential candidate Ajamu Baraka (G) and Colorado US Senate candidate Arn Menconi (G) got verified. For those don't know of Mr. Menconi, he is a Former Commissioner of Eagle County, CO.

While MGP, Green Party US, and the Minnesota Greens have become verified, the Libertarian Party, its state affiliates, and its down-ballot candidates all have not yet received verification status. This also goes for every other alternative political party in the United States.

The Twitter accounts for Dr. Margaret Flowers and the Baltimore Green Party are expected to be verified in the near future!
