The Maryland Green Party unanimously stands in support of SB 740, entitled "Oil and Natural Gas - Hydraulic Fracturing - Prohibition," which would place a ban on fracking in our state. 

For Greens, this is a "no-brainer" issue; fracking must be banned in order to protect our water and the health of our ecosystems. In addition, fracking jobs are dangerous to workers and are not plentiful for sustainable job growth. 

While a moratorium and referendum is certainly better than inaction, we advise instead for the complete prohibition of fracking today. The people have spoken out to Annapolis loud and clear; it is evident most Marylander's are against fracking. Whether the General Assembly has the political will to ban fracking is to be determined.
