Maryland provides state-run primary elections only for the two ruling ("principal") parties. Other parties are not eligible for these primaries. Thus, the Green Party gets to choose how it nominates its candidates for political office. We do so on two guiding principles:

• Green voters -- not party officials -- should get to decide on their candidates.
• No candidate should be nominated by the party without affirmative choice by voters – “none of the above” should always be a choice. You opt for "none of the above" by not voting for any candidate you do not think would be a good choice for that position.
  

All voters registered as Greens are eligible to participate in the primary.
