Imagine what $2 billion
would do for Metro
(Gazette)
In its rush to pave our county and discredit Intercounty
Connector opponents, The Gazette said ICC critics
have lied by saying the ICC would not reduce traffic.
Actually it's The Gazette that is not telling the
truth.
The state's own study, the Draft Environmental Impact
Statement, says the ICC will have "a negligible
impact" on Interstates 270, 95 and 495.
The study's charts show that most segments of these
highways will have today's levels of rush-hour congestion,
or worse, whether or not an ICC is built.
If the ICC won't reduce traffic on our highways,
it will not end gridlock for the vast majority of
commuters. It won't cut rush hour by 28 percent as
The Gazette claims. Furthermore, it won't end the
cycle of sprawl development that is eating up our
remaining open space and creating more traffic. To
solve these problems we need more creative solutions
than a $3 billion toll road that we can't afford.
