It’s begun.
Emil Hidalgo-Solis couldn’t stop throwing up. His diarrhea was bloody. His feet blistered. He had staggered through the desert, stumbled across the border, gulped contaminated water from a slimy cattle trough.
On this scorching day _ in the hottest July in local history _ Hidalgo-Solis seemed doomed to be among hundreds who died trying to enter the United States from Mexico last year.
He collapsed in a ditch. He and two others among the 10 immigrants could go no farther.
Then, from nowhere, a truck appeared. On its side, in big letters, was the word “Samaritan.” Inside were members of a faith-based group called No More Deaths, offering water, food and a ride to a doctor. They took the three to a makeshift camp, and then set out for a church where a doctor and a nurse would meet them.
Daniel Strauss was at the wheel of the old Subaru GL wagon, with Shanti Sellz beside him. The air conditioner cooled the car as they rode in silence. One of the men offered to hide.

But then, Strauss looked back and saw that they were being followed by a Border Patrol vehicle. The officers trailed them for maybe 13 miles before pulling them over; they stopped, shutting down their engine and letting the heat outside creep in.

But they also arrested Strauss and Sellz.
“Are you really arresting me?” Sellz recalls asking, in amazement.
“I know you guys are good people but what you’re doing is illegal,” she was told.

This is downright funny!
A particularly crafty sea lion is befuddling the Army Corps of Engineers, who have come to believe the 1,000-pound mammal is either from hell _ or from Harvard.
The sea lion and his ilk have been camping out at the base of the Bonneville Dam and munching chinook salmon trying to migrate up the Columbia River to spawn.

One particular sea lion _ named C404 because of a brand applied by a state and federal program _ is in a class by himself. He has figured out how to get into fish ladders that help fish past the dam _ where endangered salmon and other fish become his easy prey.

The wimpy Democrats are rapidly becoming the standard by which all other wimps are measured…
Bush, Dean told the Senate Judiciary Committee, should be censured and possibly impeached.
“Had the Senate or House, or both, censured or somehow warned Richard Nixon, the tragedy of Watergate might have been prevented,” Dean said. “Hopefully the Senate will not sit by while even more serious abuses unfold before it.”
Republicans and their witnesses rejected the comparison between Watergate and Bush’s wiretapping program, and attributed Sen. Russell Feingold’s censure resolution to posturing in a year of midterm elections.

In fact, only two Democrats have co-sponsored Feingold’s resolution: Sens. Tom Harkin of Iowa and Barbara Boxer of California. The rest have distanced themselves from the proposal, with many saying the resolution is premature because a Senate Intelligence Committee investigation of the eavesdropping program has not concluded.
