Ex-Professor Cleared on Some Terror Charges

The case against Sami Al-Arian, 47, had been seen as one of the biggest courtroom tests yet of the Patriot Act’s expanded search-and-surveillance powers.

At Forum on Evolution, Beliefs Remain Static
by Angry White LiberalEmily Howell, 17, a Gaithersburg High School senior, said she didn’t believe the scientists because, to her, nothing on Earth is more than 6,000 years old, and Charles Darwin’s theory that living things have evolved from a common ancestry over eons is a myth.
Her classmate, Emily Myron, also a 17-year-old senior, said she respects her friend but “believes in evolution wholeheartedly” because there is “far too much evidence” to deny it.

Justices Hear Military Recruiting Case

The Supreme Court appeared ready Tuesday to uphold a law that says colleges cannot turn away military recruiters in protest of the Pentagon’s policy on gays if the universities also want to receive federal money.
New Chief Justice John Roberts said schools unhappy with the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy have a simple solution: turn down federal cash.
