There are times when I have to wonder just what the devil WaPo thinks it’s up to. Case in point: The movie review that the above link goes to; why in hell doesn’t the reviewer work for them? The reviewer audaciously begins by bringing up the welfare policies of Margaret Thatcher; and does so in a completely humorous way! What standard WaPo writer would do that???!!! My favorite part of the review occurs when the writer (Louis Bayard) imagines one of the actresses running screaming from the set and calling her agent, just begging for any role — anything! — on London’s West End. Utterly delightful, and again, what WaPo writer would do that???!!!
Please. Just click on the link and read the review and as you do so, just ask yourself: Is this the kind of writing that shows up in WaPo? The answer, of course, is: HELL NO!!! I really must get in the habit of reading the Washington City Paper more often. At the very least, some of their movie reviewers are distinctly superior to those found in WaPo.
