Bush’s national security team met this weekend to consider policies against Syria to stem the influx of foreign fighters into Iraq. One option under consideration was bombing Syrian villages 30 to 40 miles inside Syria that are believed to haorbor Iraqi insurgents.

Military intelligence officers say that the intelligence on the insurgents’ presence in the villages is “not unambiguous.” Administration officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the bombing proposal reflects the military’s frustration with its inability to defeat the insurgents and stop the flow of foreign terrorists into Iraq.

Although these plans do not seem imminent, one has to wonder if the administration is giving any consideration to the blowback of yet another unprovoked military attack on a small nation, or whether they are going to repeat all the same mistakes they made when they went into Iraq.
